Prediabetes Risk Test

An estimated 88 million (more than 1 in 3) American adults have prediabetes, a condition where blood sugar levels are higher than normal but not high enough yet to be diagnosed as type 2 diabetes. What’s more, more than 80% percent of those people don’t know they have it. Having prediabetes greatly increases the chance of developing type 2 diabetes and other serious health conditions. It’s critical for Americans to learn their prediabetes risk, be screened regularly, and take the steps necessary to delay or prevent type 2 diabetes.

The American Diabetes Association (ADA) launched its first risk test in 1993. The risk test was adapted by a published study and validated using data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). To simplify the test, only health traits that people would know about themselves were included, such as age, height, and weight, but not blood sugar or cholesterol levels.

A person with a high score on the online risk test (5 or higher) is at significant risk for having prediabetes. However, only a blood test can determine an official diagnosis.

Our whole health holistic diabetes care approach allows us to incorporate a wide variety of disciplines available to care and treat diabetes which may include acupuncture, chiropractic medicine and stress management.

Acupuncture & Holistic Herbal Remedies

Traditional Chinese Medicine is a holistic approach to treat a person’s mental and physical health problems. It includes acupuncture, herbal remedies, and several other treatment methods.

A growing base of clinical studies have shown that the use of acupuncture as a complimentary treatment for diabetes alongside with traditional diabetes treatment, lifestyle changes to improve diabetes symptoms.

Acupuncture can treat multiple diabetes related problems including relieving pain, sleep, high blood pressure, impotency, and diabetic neuropathy.

According to The World Health Organization, “Acupuncture is an effective technique for over 100 medical conditions including diabetes.” It can help with weight loss, metabolism, organ function and nerve pain. Cortisol, a hormone released during stress, will be better regulated during acupuncture. Several sessions are usually recommended to target the condition along with a maintenance program to keep the energy flow and channels open.

⦁ Tests for Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes and Prediabetes
⦁ A1C Test
This blood test, which doesn’t require not (fasting), shows your average blood sugar level for the past 2 to 3 months. It measures the percentage of blood sugar attached to hemoglobin, the oxygen-carrying protein in red blood cells. It’s also called a glycated hemoglobin test.
Test Results: An A1C level of 6.5% or higher on two separate tests means that you have diabetes. An A1C between 5.7% and 6.4% means that you have prediabetes. Below 5.7% is considered normal.
⦁ Random Blood Sugar Test
A blood sample will be taken at a random time. A blood sugar level of 200 milligrams per deciliter (mg/dL) — 11.1 millimoles per liter (mmol/L) — or higher suggests diabetes.
⦁ Fasting Blood Sugar Test
A blood sample will be taken after you have fasted from the night before. A fasting blood sugar level less than 100 mg/dL (5.6 mmol/L) is normal. A fasting blood sugar level from 100 to 125 mg/dL (5.6 to 6.9 mmol/L) is considered prediabetes. If it’s 126 mg/dL (7 mmol/L) or higher on two separate tests, you have diabetes.
⦁ Glucose Tolerance Test
Overnight fasting is required for this test. You will drink a sugary liquid, and then blood sugar levels are tested regularly for the next two hours.
A blood sugar level less than 140 mg/dL (7.8 mmol/L) is normal. A reading of more than 200 mg/dL (11.1 mmol/L) after two hours means you have diabetes. A reading between 140 and 199 mg/dL (7.8 mmol/L and 11.0 mmol/L) means you have prediabetes.
